Looking for a lemonade that is not a "me too" lemonade recipe? This beautiful and delicious Hibiscus Tea Lemonade is the one!
I was first exposed to Hibiscus tea by my lovely friend Monica who hails from Mexico and knew how well it pairs with Mexican cuisine. And....it has added health benefits from it's naturally gorgeous dark red pigment - lots of anti oxidants!
On a recent trip to New York City my daughter and I ate at the famed Empellon where the specialty is Mexican inspired cuisine. They had taken the Hibiscus tea up a notch and served it as a crisp lemonade. (I was so excited to taste it, I forgot to take a photo while the glass was full!)
I couldn't resist coming up with my own version once I arrived home. So, here you go...I know you're going to love it!
Hibiscus Tea Lemonade (makes 2 quarts)
6-8 lemons (use one for garnish slices and rest for fresh juice to make 1/2 cup)
8 cups Hibiscus tea (brewed from hibiscus tea bags or leaves-any specialty grocer should have)
1/2 cup blue agave syrup (feel free to use more if you like it very sweet...and you can also substiute cane sugar)
Place tea in 2 quart pitcher and stir in 1/2 cup lemon juice and 1/2 cup agave. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon wheels. So beautiful and refreshing!!!! It would be easy to make this sparkling by topping it off with one 8-10 oz of club soda!
